Welcome to ABCOMICS

The African Bioinformatics Center for Omics (ABCOMICS) is a regional hub dedicated to advancing genomics and data science across Africa. We foster innovation, provide high-quality training, promote ethical data sharing, and support collaborative research that strengthens local capacity and drives impactful scientific discovery.

About Us

The African Bioinformatics Center for Omics (ABCOMICS) is a regional hub advancing omics research, innovation, and capacity building across Africa.

Who We Are

Based in Senegal, the African Bioinformatics Center for Omics (ABCOMICS) is a pioneering initiative founded by African scientists to address the critical need for genomic and data science infrastructure across the continent. Our multidisciplinary team brings together experts in bioinformatics, statistics, and software engineering, each with more than five years of experience in the field.

ABCOMICS is built on a collaborative model, uniting researchers, institutions, and policymakers to drive impactful science. We are committed to open science principles, equity, and leadership that reflect Africa’s scientific potential and research priorities.

Our Vision

Our vision is to become a world-class bioinformatics center recognized for scientific excellence, innovation, and sustainability. We aim to empower African researchers with the infrastructure, tools, and training they need to lead high-impact genomic and multi-omics research—locally and globally. Through strong ethics, data governance, and South–South and South–North collaboration, ABCOMICS will help shape the future of life sciences in Africa.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop robust, African-led bioinformatics infrastructure and expertise that supports:

  • Independent data generation, analysis, and storage within Africa
  • Open and ethical sharing of omics data
  • Training and mentoring of early-career scientists
  • Development of research software and reproducible workflows
  • Support for precision medicine, agriculture, and environmental genomics

Our Commitment

ABCOMICS is not just a center—it's a platform for transformation. We are committed to working with African institutions, governments, and international partners to advance data-driven science that is relevant, inclusive, and future-ready. Our goal is to foster a new generation of scientists and developers who will lead Africa into the era of precision science.
